Dog Training Tips for Raising
a Well Behaved Dog

Dog training tips to make your dog a welcome part of the familyDog training tips can provide techniques which can be the key factor in transforming that gorgeous puppy into a well behaved dog the whole family will enjoy. Dogs, like children, need to know the home rules and respect the authority of alpha owners. Most new dog owners have already fallen in love with the cute, adorable puppy when they first saw it at the breeders. However, they can quickly become disillusioned and frustrated when that same wonderful, cuddly, adorable puppy chews up the furniture or makes messes on the carpet.

A dog training tip to remember, is that you must give lots of time and have a great deal of patience to raise that pup into a well behaved dog that is a joy to all. Most puppies will find some mischief to get into and the information on this website will provide some dog training tips to help you and your puppy develop a happy relationship.

Rules Must be Set and Adhered To

The first dog training tip is to establish the rules of the household. The sooner you begin, the more successful you will be. It is the initial dog training that will make for a well behaved adult dog. If you don't want your 50 kilo Akita Inu hopping up on your bed at night, you should not let your 10 kilo puppy up there either, not even as a treat. Never let them up and they will soon learn this is a definite ‘out of bounds’ area. Start your dog training right from the moment the puppy arrives at your home. It is never too early to teach your pup to keep off the furniture and not to jump on guests. Just make sure the entire family understands and is prepared to enforce the rules, before you bring your puppy home. It will be easier on everyone if they are all in agreement with the dog training techniques you intend to use to make sure the dog will obey you and everyone else in the family.

Being Constant

An important dog training tip is to first set the rules then ensure that you maintain consistency in enforcing them with your dog training methods. Reprimanded your puppy with a sharp ‘No!’ every time he breaks a rule. He should be constantly shown the acceptable behavior that you want to see. Enforcing rules this way applies to all of your dog training, such as chewing on his toys instead of your furniture or shoes. Like children, dogs will learn the rules more quickly when they are enforced every single time. This dog training tip is very time consuming and many dog owners (and parents) ‘give up’ and it doesn’t take long for the puppy (or child) to realise he can get away with a lot, if he persists. However, by being consistent with your dog training at all times it will, in the long run, save time, effort and your sanity.

Remember to Offer Positive Rewards

Dog Training Tips for All Your Dogs When your puppy does follow the rules remember to reward him for his good behavior. The dog training tip that will get you great results is to use this positive reinforcement rather than punishment.  It is an essential factor in effective dog training, as it will quickly produce the results you want to achieve. Rewards might be an edible treat, but later (once the puppy understands what you want), praise and positive attention will work fine on their own. Your puppy will soon learn that it is to his benefit to listen and obey your instruction, when you offer positive reinforcement every time.

Dog training is not all that hard but these dog training tips will take time, patience and consistency to produce the results you want. You will find that it will be well worth the effort when you end up with a dog that is obedient and can give pleasure to the entire family and guests.
